Common proxy ports explained (8080, 3128, 1080)
まとめ
A proxy port is where your app connects to the proxy server, while the destination port is where the website accepts the request. Common proxy ports like 8080 (HTTP), 3128 (Squid), and 1080 (SOCKS) are conventions, not requirements. Always use the host, port, and protocol your provider assigns.

Think of the proxy’s IP as an apartment building’s address and its port as the apartment number. In 192.0.2.10:8000, the port is 8000. You need the host and port your provider gives you, plus the right protocol.

A familiar number like 8080 doesn’t make a connection work by itself. The proxy must support your protocol on that port.

Proxy port or destination port?

These are two separate settings:

Proxy port: where your app connects to the proxy server. Enter it with the proxy host in your app’s settings.

Destination port: where the website accepts the request. Your client normally gets this from the URL: 80 for HTTP, 443 for HTTPS.

If a website uses another port, include it in the URL or app configuration, such as https://example.com:8443. That doesn’t change the proxy port.

For traffic routed through the proxy, the website normally sees its exit IP. It can still recognize your account, cookies or browser signals.

Common ports at a glance

These are conventions, not requirements. Providers can use custom ports for different products, locations or session settings.

PortTypical useUsual protocolWorth knowing
80Standard web traffic, occasionally an HTTP proxyHTTPSome providers offer an endpoint on this port; follow their settings.
443Standard HTTPS, and some proxy endpointsHTTPS for websites; provider-defined for proxy endpoints443 is the default HTTPS destination port; other ports can be specified. Use the protocol your provider assigns to its proxy endpoint.
3128Squid proxyHTTPCommon default, but configurable
8080Common alternative HTTP port, often used for proxiesHTTPAlso serves dev servers, so 8080 does not always mean proxy
1080The SOCKS conventionSOCKS4, SOCKS5A registry convention, not a requirement

Which port should you use with Proxy-Cheap?

Proxy-Cheap lists proxy-us.proxy-cheap.com:5959 and proxy-eu.proxy-cheap.com:5959 as rotating residential gateways. Copy the current endpoint and location settings from your dashboard. Port 5959 works because the gateway listens there; it doesn’t need a standard proxy meaning.

For static residential and datacenter IPv4 proxies, copy the host and port from your dashboard. Check them again after switching protocols.

Don’t replace the assigned port with 8080 just because another guide uses it. Follow your provider’s settings.

A proxy port is the number your app uses to connect to the proxy server. In 192.0.2.10:8000, the IP is the proxy host and 8000 is the port. You need the host and port from your provider, plus the right protocol. A familiar number won't make the connection work by itself.

The proxy port is where your app connects to the proxy server, and you enter it with the proxy host in your app's settings. The destination port is where the website accepts the request. Your client normally takes it from the URL: 80 for HTTP and 443 for HTTPS. Changing one doesn't change the other.

Port 8080 is a common alternative HTTP port that's often used for proxies. It also serves development servers, so 8080 doesn't always mean a proxy. If your provider assigns a different port, use that one instead.

Port 80 is the standard port for HTTP web traffic. Port 443 is the default port for HTTPS. Some providers also run proxy endpoints on these ports. In that case, use the protocol your provider assigns to that endpoint.

Port 1080 is the usual convention for SOCKS4 and SOCKS5, but it isn't a requirement. Providers can assign custom ports anywhere from 1024 to 65535, so copy the port from your dashboard rather than assuming 1080.
